When your body’s natural mechanism is alerted from any attack, it will activate its protection mechanism. When you have allergies or common colds, you may sense an increase in the mucus production along with your nasal passage being inflamed, causing it to become narrower. You may be familiar with this situation: your nose is blocked and yet your mucus is piling up, creating a pressure inside the nasal passage. Can you imagine the discomfort and the pain that build up inside your head?

No need to worry as you can always make your own natural decongestant. Feel free if you want to use the medical solution or over the counter drugs. But some people don’t really like the side effects – and other possible risks. If you are one of them, it would be a good idea to make your own natural expectorant and decongestant. With the natural recipe, you may have to spend some extra time in the preparation but it is worth it. The best thing about this natural recipe is the low risks and side effects.

The Spicy Decongestant

This natural decongestant recipe only uses some of the most organic and natural ingredients such as apple cider vinegar, ginger, honey, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice. Decongestant means that this recipe will make the mucus thinner, so it will pass the nasal passage easier. Expectorant means that the recipe can make the mucus so thin that you can cough it up easily.

There are reasons why you use these ingredients to make this spicy natural decongestant recipe. You see, ginger, honey, and cayenne pepper are the natural expectorant. Each of them alone is able to lose and remove the mucus and the phlegm, so you can get rid of the pressure. However, cayenne pepper is also an effective decongestant because it is rich in capsaicin. Capsaicin is effective enough to relieve inflammation and swelling. When cayenne pepper is paired up with the apple cider vinegar, which is also another effective decongestant, you can expect a double effect.

You need to have half teaspoon powdered ginger and cayenne pepper. Prepare a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar and also lemon juice. Use organic honey only (as long as it is natural, it should do) and have three tablespoons of it.

Mix the lemon juice and the apple cider vinegar inside a pot. Gently prepare it in simmer way. Add the honey and stir gently. And then add the cayenne pepper along with the powdered ginger. Make sure to add ginger the latter because it will add the strength and paunchiness to this mix. Don’t let it boil; simply simmer until everything is mixed well.

Let it cool and move to a jar. Place it in a dark and cool place, and make sure to keep it away from your kids’ reach. You can take it one or two tablespoons per day, depending on how much you want it. Make sure to shake the jar before taking the mix. Some people like to warm it first before they consume it. But it is still potent and okay without you having to warm it first. It is only a matter of preference, really.

Other Handy Tips

For some people, taking a tablespoon of this natural decongestant helps them sleep better without dealing with the stuffed nose. Be warned, though, that this mix can be quite spicy so it may not go well for those with sensitive stomach. But for most people who have consumed it, the spicy and warm sensation is pretty nice. It is not intrusive, annoying, or irritating to the point of burning throat or stomach. They have dealt with the stuffy nose, for sure, and it is completely natural and safe.

There are also other things that you can try in relation to the decongestant relief. Since consuming the cayenne pepper mixture is limited to two tablespoons a day, you can try hot shower if you suffer from a stuffed nose. It is another great alternative to remove the blockage while cleansing yourself.

Drinking something warm can also be a great alternative. Make yourself a hot tea. While steeping on it, you can breathe in the steam so your mucus will thin out. Try it but don’t forget to prepare some tissues first! Chamomile tea is claimed to be quite great to make you relax while you can thin the mucus out at the same time. But if you really want to deal with the issue for once and for all, try green tea. It will boost your immune system to the highest level.

In the end, it is up to you to try the home remedy recipes or the chemical medication. But if you are able to make your own natural decongestant and you can accompany it with other decongestant methods, your problem should be gone right away.
